BatState-U President Takes Different Roles as Wife, Mother, Homemaker

When you step into a beautiful house, there is that kind of delight that seem to trace your senses. One Sunday afternoon, we found ourselves in awe inside a lovely two-storey house characterized by space, comfort, and comeliness.

This is the next installment of our two-part feature on Batangas State University President, Dr. Nora Lumbera Magnaye. This time we’ll get to know Dr. Magnaye as a wife, a mother and a HOME maker.

The Supportive Wife

Dr. Nora Magnaye is the other half of a couple who, after all the years of togetherness, remain very supportive of each other. Being in the position where career responsibilities are too heavy to manage, the couple seek refuge from each other. They share the best and the roughest times of their lives together as they perform the hardest yet most fulfilling responsibility of raising their children into well-rounded individuals.

Aside from being supportive, Dr. Magnaye is a caring wife, responsive of her husband’s needs. She is attentive of her husband Eusebio’s (Boy’s) health especially when it comes on his food intake. (FYI, Dr. Magnaye shares she cooks well) Apart from that, they have seen the world together during their trips abroad when Sir Boy was a Senior Executive of Pilipinas Shell
Petroleum Corporation in Tabangao, Batangas City.

A Doting Mom

Based on the stories Dr. Magnaye told us, she is a very supportive mother and has raised her children well together with her husband. They were able to provide a comfortable life for their four children who grew up as responsible and successful individuals. Dr. Magnaye, in particular, admits she was a ‘stage mother’ especially to her daughters, Sheila and Sharon, who were both beauty queens and very talented ladies just like their mom. Dr. Magnaye is also a doting grandma who enjoys being playful whenever her grandchildren spend time in their house.

Loving Green, Living Healthy

Green is probably the color which speaks of her lifestyle. Dr. Magnaye’s favorite activity? Gardening. She spends most of her leisure time in the garden where she personally attends to every gardening task. Her logical and creative skills permit her to design the landscape of the garden.

Dr. Magnaye entertains herself by reading books, watching TV, singing over the videoke and ballroom dancing. Aside from keeping a cheerful disposition, what practically makes her look and feel young is her commitment to healthy living. She watches what she eats even if it means taking in less of the most delectable dishes. Malunggay shake is Dr. Magnaye’s ‘power drink’. But it doesn’t end there. She spends ample time on her gym equipment as religiously as possible.

The Building Blocks of a Dream

Their house was completed in 2006 after four years of arduous planning. Let’s start our tour inside the house. The house’s interior is a mix of Victorian and modern design. Dr. Magnaye said it’s eclectic. You would see shades of gold, white, silver, and green from the furniture to the walls to the grills and ornaments mostly crystals. The President herself designed the grills and was hands-on with the over-all concept of their abode.

The walls of the living room, which also serves as the receiving area, gives space for huge portraits of the members of the Magnaye family. Upon entering the house, the one which caught my attention next to the giant, gold-framed mirror was the painting of a ballerina (hanged on the wall leading to the second floor). It was a portrait of Dr. Magnaye’s daughter, Sheila.

The house was completed through the cunning mind of Dr. Magnaye. Of course, it was not a lone project. The Magnaye residence was built through the help of an architect friend, Doah Lacap, Civil Engr., Dr. Leonila Antonio and with the people who gave way to the President’s envisioned house that will cradle their family’s happiest moments.

Truly, it was Dr. Magnaye’s dream house. The semi-spiral staircase materializes one of the President’s dream component as inspired by her two daughters’ could-have-been grand entrance on their debuts.

There were a couple of mirrors inside the house. We all know mirrors create illusion of space, making the interior appear bigger. Most of the furniture are part of Dr. Magnaye’s collection from the ’70s. Dr. Magnaye’s favorite spot in the house are the master’s bedroom and their private bathroom which surprised us with a mini-walk in closet! Geez, that’s my personal dream! Haha.

Playing important roles in the society, Dr. Nora Magnaye and her family often receives visits from friends and colleagues. The reason why they have a spacious garden and a garage which doubles as an entertainment area, sometimes a meeting venue, an extension of the dining area, and so on. This is just one proof that they in the Magnaye family are very accommodating and friendly people.

What we saw inside the Magnaye’s residence are reflections of how Dr. Nora and her family’s life has been throughout the years. This is a place where they share bundles of joy, pieces of challenging moments, and a love which binds them closer at heart despite any distance travelled by each of them.

Thank you so much Dr. Nora Magnaye, for another elating opportunity you have given the WOWBatangas Team to know you better. We had learned so much from you and we will forever appreciate your kindness.
