After our first Talisay trip, Ibaan naman. Together with the rest of the town people of Ibaan, the team celebrates with them in their 179th Founding Anniversary today, Feb. 11.

alva at padyak brigadaAround 60 cyclists took part in Ibaan’s Padyak Brigada which happened early this morning a few minutes passed 6:00am. Our team member Alva, who’s always on the go, joined the rest of the guys including Vice Mayor Sixto Yabyabin, who traced the cycling route which lasted for about an hour and a half.

Padyak Brigada serves as a kick-off for the grand 180th Founding Anniversary next year. Aside from that, this cycling event was also organized to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle among the locals of Ibaan.

A thanksgiving mass was held at the St. James Parish Church at 8am. The color yellow filled the church as majority of the people who attended the mass were wearing the official 179th Founding Anniversary t-shirt which says “ibaangibaan” in front and “sama-sama tayo” at the back.

Minutes passed 9am, the parade started featuring the 22 Mutya ng Ibaan 2012 candidates escorted by their respective barangay captains followed by the people from the municipal government and various sectors of the society.

A “salo-salo sa bayan” followed after the parade. Everyone is invited to join the salo-salo and that’s another first for us.

This is the first time we’re celebrating with the people of Ibaan in an important event in their town. And we’re quite surprised that many people recognizes us. “Uy, nakikita ko kayo sa Internet ah!”, exclaimed a town folk. It’s nice to know that people actually know us and what we do. With that, we’re more than glad.

We were able to gather quite a number of facts about Ibaan this morning. While waiting for the cyclists to reach the rotonda earlier, Ms. Myla Soriano from the municipal government shared some trivia about her hometown. Ibaan used to be a huge producer of kulambo (mosquito net) thus the emerging of their Kulambo Festival. The town is best known for their kulambo made of cotton (as shared by Mayor Danny Toreja in our exclusive interview).

Meanwhile, there is an association formed among Ibaan natives who are now based in the US and in Canada. They generously support the programs and significant events in Ibaan even if they’re miles away from their hometown.

Ms. Myla also shared about the Himamawo falls in Malainin. The municipal government is planning to preserve this virgin falls and develop it into a tourist spot without alternating its natural beauty. Ibaan also boasts of two resorts being frequented by town visitors – Villa Franca and Villa Marines. With all these attractions, Ibaan has enough reasons to increase the number of tourists coming in – and not just passing by.

Engr. Mario Samson of the MPDC also shared some historical facts regarding the early years of Ibaan. The town’s name originated from “iba” a tree which grows abundantly around town.

Ibaan Mayor Danny TorejaIbaan is celebrating three important dates in their calendar: July 25 – feast of St. James The Greater, the town’s patron saint; December 30 – the town fiesta; February 11 – founding anniversary.

We were fortunate to have an exclusive interview with the municipal mayor of Ibaan, Hon. Danny Toreja. The video of this interview will be uploaded soon. To share the essential parts of our conversation, Mayor Toreja stressed on his goal of making every local of Ibaan feel proud of his roots. He wants to bring out the best qualities of the people and their beloved Ibaan. The Mayor also stated that they will be having a grand celebration next year to showcase the best of Ibaan on its 180th year.

To the people of Ibaan, Happy 179th Founding Anniversary! Tunay ngang IBAANGIBAAN! 😉
