June 30: The Dawn of the Aquino Administration

Tomorrow, June 30, 2010, another historical event will transpire in the lives of every Filipino. President-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Cojuangco Aquino III will take his oath of office as the 15th President of the Philipppines.

Because June 30 was declared by outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as special non-working holiday, the entire nation and the world will be able to witness this very significant event. A new administration dawns tomorrow, anticipated to bring a new beginning for the Filipino people.

So what will happen in President-elect Noynoy’s inauguration?

The inauguration is set to happen at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila with the theme: “Tagumpay ng Taumbayan, Panata sa Pagbabago”.

Event timeline of the inauguration:

6:00am to 9:00am – There will be a nationwide prayer service to commence the inauguration day.

8:30 – Expected assembly of guests and supporters at the Quirino Grandstand.

9:30 – Expected arrival of VIPs on the venue.

10:20 – Family and guests of Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay will arrive an the grandstand.

10:25 – Family and guests of President-elect Noynoy Aquino will arrive on the venue.

10:30 – Expected arrival of President-elect Noynoy Aquino at Malacañang Palace to fetch the outgoing President Arroyo for the traditional ride. Vice President-elect Binay is also anticipated to arrive at the grandstand by this time.

10:35 – P-Noy at PGMA will arrive on the inauguration venue.

10:50 – The outgoing president will be bestowed with military honors.

10:55 – PGMA will leave the Quirino Grandstand on her private car.

11:00 – The inauguration ceremony will officially start with the singing of Philippine National Anthem.

11:15 – Some of the country’s top music artists will perform (Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, APO Hiking Society, Gary Valenciano, and more).

11:35 – Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile will read the Congress’ proclamation of Aquino and Binay.

11:40 – Jejomar Binay will take his oath as Vice President to be administered by Associate Justice Conchita Morales-Carpio.

12:00nn – Noynoy Aquino will take his oath as the new President also to be administered by Associate Justice Conchita Morales-Carpio.

12:10pm – President Aquino will give his inaugural address to be followed by the people’s Pledge of Allegiance to the Philippine Flag.

1:00 – The President will leave the grandstand to have lunch with other officials, Cabinet members, and his family.

2:30 – Some local officials and the new Cabinet members will take their oath of office to be administered by the new President.

3:30 – President Noynoy will have his first Cabinet meeting.

What is the importance of this much-anticipated event? The Aquino administration will formally take over the government which means new beginnings, new hopes. Although befaced with the old promises and old challenges.

Admit or not, we Filipinos like new chapters. We are filled with enthusiasm and overwhelming hopes that only gets greater by weight as time unfolds.

With the onset of the Aquino administration, may the Filipinos keep in mind that expectations from people with authority and power should not be a reason for the former to defer their self growth.
