Updates: Iglesia ni Cristo Day is a working Holiday (source)

July 07, 2009 update
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita made the clarification after the Palace issued conflicting statements about the Iglesia Ni Cristo holiday. One statement said July 27 would be a “non-working” holiday while another one said it would be a “working” holiday.

With this, the Palace clarified that INC day which will be on July 27, will be a non working holiday. The said date is the founding anniversarry of Iglesia Ni Cristo.

Arroyo signed Republic Act 9645 into law on June 12, 2009. The law designates July 27 as a special non-working holiday in recognition of the founding anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in the Philippines and its role in spiritual and moral formation of its followers. The declaration also coincides with the organization’s 95th founding anniversary this year.

Also, happening on the same day will be the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

realizing that the INC number is not that great and the impact of declaring a senseless holiday might affect the economy, Malacang clarified that July 27, 2009 is a working holiday.

It’s not a special day after all. It’s just a political move. Just another decision made out of nowhere from Malacanang
