SAN JOSE, Batangas – The Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Joseph the Patriarch marked a historic moment on Monday, August 25, with the blessing and inauguration of its newly restored church interior.
Recognized as having the oldest preserved church interior in Batangas, the shrine underwent renovation in preparation for the 25th anniversary of its elevation as an Archdiocesan Shrine in 2001. The milestone underscores both its cultural and spiritual significance in the province.

Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, who is set to assume the presidency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines in December, led the Mass and blessing. In his homily, he described the restoration as a manifestation of “faith, love, and hope,” and praised the community of San Jose for their generosity, calling their contributions a reflection of goodwill.
The Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Joseph the Patriarch was declared a Level II historical shrine by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as early as 1939, further affirming its role as both a heritage site and a center of faith for generations of Batangueños.
