The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Lipa City, under the leadership of PLTCOL Aleli Cuyan Buaqen, Lipa CIty Chief of Police and spokesperson of the Batangas Police Provincial Office, hosted a fun run with nearly 2,000 participants to promote the 911 hotline among Batangueños.
The event was held last August 31 at The Outlets at Lima Estate, a venue that has long supported community activities and events promoting wellness, camaraderie, and an active lifestyle.
The activity also follows the national 911 fun run previously held in Manila, part of the government’s continuing campaign to raise awareness of this critical public service.

In her interview with WOWBatangas, PLTCOL Buaqen highlighted that 911 calls are free and can be made even without a cellphone load. Calls are routed to the PNP national office and immediately cascaded to the nearest police station, which targets a five-minute response time.
“Wag mag-atubili na tawagan ang 911, kasi yung iba parang hindi pa masyadong naniniwala. Pero sana wag din itong gamitin sa prank calls kasi oras na ginamit ito sa prank calls ay di marerespondehan ang maga tinay na nangangailangan,” PLTCOL Buaqen said.
Community Awareness Initiatives
Aside from their law enforcement duties and regular patrolling, the PNP Batangas continues to raise awareness about the proper use of the 911 hotline. They distribute 911 stickers to local tricycle and jeep drivers, and other transport groups, conduct information drives in schools and barangays, and strengthen police visibility through consistent community engagement.
Responsible Use
PLTCOL Buaqen thanked participants, her fellow officers, community stakeholders, and event organizers for supporting the campaign. She underscored the importance of responsible use of the hotline, reminding the public that every prank call delays genuine emergency responses.
“Sa lahat ng tumulong at nakibahagi, maraming salamat. Sama-sama nating gawing ligtas ang ating komunidad,” she added.
Building a Culture of Safety Nationwide
Through both national and local initiatives, the PNP is determined to make the 911 hotline the go-to emergency number for Filipinos. The fun run in Lipa City is one of many activities aimed at strengthening public awareness, fostering trust, and ensuring that help is only a call away.
