The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)–Batangas is preparing to provide technology upgrading support to at least 10 community-based associations and cooperatives in the province next year as part of its continuing efforts to promote inclusive and sustainable development.
The planned assistance will be implemented through the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Community-Based Program and the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program, both designed to strengthen local capabilities through science- and technology-driven solutions.
Ahead of the rollout, DOST Batangas has conducted technology needs assessments among the selected groups to identify priority areas for intervention. The provincial office is also maintaining close coordination with partner associations and cooperatives to fine-tune project proposals and ensure that recommended technologies are aligned with on-the-ground conditions.
The GIA Community-Based Program provides financial support for projects that apply appropriate technologies and leverage local resources. These initiatives are intended to improve productivity, stimulate economic activities, and support community-led development.
Complementing this, the CEST Program offers an integrated set of science and technology interventions aimed at empowering rural communities, particularly those in economically disadvantaged areas. Focus areas include health and nutrition, water and sanitation, basic education, livelihood and enterprise development, as well as disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
Through these programs, DOST Batangas continues to bring science and innovation closer to the grassroots, helping community organizations build resilience and achieve long-term sustainability.
