TAAL, Batangas — A 159-year-old church bell is set to return to the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Caysasay in Taal, Batangas, after being housed for years at the Sto. Niño Parish in Marauoy, Lipa City, according to a report by the Manila Standard.

Dating back to 1866, the bell will soon be reinstalled at the shrine as part of a new devotional practice. Known as the “Bell of Hope,” the tradition will allow devotees to ring the bell as they offer prayers to the Blessed Virgin of Caysasay.

The shrine, a centuries-old pilgrimage site, is home to the image of Our Lady of Caysasay, which holds deep religious and cultural significance in Batangas and surrounding areas.

A formal turnover ceremony is being planned, although an exact date has not been announced. Preparations are currently underway at the shrine, including arrangements for devotional activities related to the bell’s return.

Church officials said the bell’s homecoming is more than a historical restoration — it is meant to encourage spiritual renewal and inspire hope among the faithful.

The return of the artifact also forms part of continuing efforts to preserve the religious heritage of Batangas and strengthen the community’s connection to its historic traditions.
