What’s in a Pinoy Christmas Wishlist?

Christmas is not just a season for kids. So they’re not the only ones entitled for a Christmas wish. In this day and age when social media define relationship status and smartphones know no distance and boundaries, what else can you wish for Christmas?

Wish as a noun according to Google is “a desire or hope for something to happen” and as a verb is to “feel or express a strong desire or hope for something that is not easily attainable; want something that cannot or probably will not happen”.

Let’s not debate as to what is more appropriate dominating word in this article – wish or hope. I know we’re all used to associating the former with something you want for Christmas, right?

Filipinos wish for a lot of things. We’re one with the world in making our Christmas wishlist so feel very comfortable doing one. How about you? What do you wish for this Christmas?

I’m quite cautious in asking my godchildren what do they want for Christmas. Actually, I never dare ask because three of them are already going to school and chances are, their Christmas wishes may have been influenced by some of their classmates’ list and there’s no way I’m going to give away a gadget to any of them. Or so I presume.

Gadgets. I myself am wishing for the latest iPod Touch (it was actually a birthday wish two months ago) and I know a yellow or a blue one is just out there waiting to land on my palm. Thrilled.

If I had not wished for that If my personal Santa Claus/Genie wasn’t as thoughtful as he is then I know I have to save portions of my salary for how many months to be able to purchase my coveted candy-colored Apple gadget. So wish for the heavens to drop a sweet personal Santa Claus/Genie for you. Haha.

Filipino Christmas wishlistIf you ask adults what do they want for Christmas, a long list of respondents would say ‘to win the lottery’, ‘to get rich’, ‘to have our own house and lot’. Winning the lottery takes enough risk (betting certain amount everyday can sometimes be impractical) and patience, so why don’t just wish to be lucky? As that is what it’s all about – luck.

Getting rich and owning a house and lot. There’s an appropriate realization for this one: ‘Nothing worth having comes easy’. If you weren’t born with a silver spoon, you know you have to work hard to be able to turn your wish into visible reality. Then just wish for enough determination to keep your job and earn what you deserve.

Just one question. If everyone would wish for world peace, will it come true considering the huge number of people who wished for it?

We may or may not wish for the same things but think of all our wishes to have an ETD or estimated time of delivery. If things don’t happen right away, they may be delayed. If things don’t happen at all, they are not meant to be.

It’s never too old to make a wish. So be a good boy/girl and make sure Santa hears you clearly. 😉
