Prom Night = Gastos (Tipid Tips for Parents)

Aside from February being the Valentine month, this is also the time when junior and senior high school students are prepping up for the much awaited/much dreaded event, the Junior-Senior Prom.

If I am to ask you of your memorable prom night experience, will you be responding with something funny, embarrassing, or sweet?

Why is prom night important for every high school kid to experience? This event isn’t put up with too much effort by the school administration for nothing. The prom is intended for personality development particularly on polishing the teens’ socialization skills to prepare them for future formal gatherings they need to be part of.

BUT, prom for parents is synonymous with the term GASTOS (expense). Of course, they will be the ones to shell out money for their kid’s attire and anything else they need to pay for in the event.

Prom is more magastos for the girls. Read this: dress, accessories, shoes, makeup. While the guys would only need his chosen attire and shoes.

Here are some tips on how your prom attendee can look their best without spending too much for just a one-night-only event.

JS Prom Night tips1. If there is no theme, determine the attire. Should the girls be in evening gown and the guys in coat and tie? Or semi-formal attire will do?

Option A: Rent. Kasi kung isang beses mo lang naman isusuot, why bother na magpatahi pa? Lalo na kung gown. You can’t wear it as a Sunday dress naman.

Option B: Go to to thrift store, a.k.a. ukay-ukay. Seriously. You can find long dresses and coats which are still in good condition. Just make sure they’re super clean.

2. For the girls, you can transform a very simple dress into a posh and expensive-looking one if you know how to accessorize. For example, a little black dress can be adorned with gold or bejeweled accessories. You can also wear a belt with rhinestones or a silk sash to accent your LBD.

3. Guys don’t really need to accessorize. A wristwatch will do. But what would make your young man dashing ala Daniel Padilla? Right fitting (not really tight) clothes, polished shoes, and neatly combed hair. Remind him to spray right amount of perfume that won’t drive girls away.

4. Girls must know the balance in terms of putting accessories. Huge bangle/dangling earrings plus cocktail ring will do. Simple stud earrings can go well with elaborated necklace. Simple stud earrings plus simple necklace can be paired with an arm bangle. If she’s wearing a long necklace, tell her not to wear a prominent belt. Choose only one accessory to highlight.

5. Simple makeup will do. If you can do her makeup or her older sister can, then there’s no need for you to bring her to a salon.

6. In buying shoes, remind them to pick an ultra comfortable pair which they can wear for some other occasions so they won’t just get stuck in the closet after prom night.

Robinsons Place Lipa have tenants which sell stylish yet affordable formal wear and shoes. You might want to check them out.

If they feel comfortable with what they’re wearing and they feel good about themselves, everything else will follow. The important thing is they enjoy the moment with their classmates and friends. Don’t forget to give them reassurance how wonderful they are. It would mean a lot.
