Weaving and Processing Center Opens in Ibaan, Batangas to Boost Local Craftsmanship

Ibaan, Batangas – July 29, 2025 — A new era begins for local artisans as the SM Sunrise Weaving Association in Sitio Sta. Margarita, Brgy. Munting Tubig, Ibaan, Batangas officially opened its Weaving and Processing Center in a ceremonial turnover event

This milestone project, designed to strengthen local craftsmanship and uplift the weaving industry in Batangas, was made possible through the generous support of Senator Loren Legarda and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PHILFIDA).

Key figures in attendance included PHILFIDA Executive Director Arnold “Ali” Atienza, Regional Director Jose Catalla, and Ms. Concepcion Jocson. The Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) also reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and promoting local heritage.

Representing Mayor Jane Casas and the local government, Municipal Administrator Ryan De Sagun, along with Brgy. Captain Mario Acebo and other members of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC), showed strong support for the community led initiative.

Highlights of the event included the symbolic awarding of the center’s certificate and key, followed by a ribbon cutting and blessing ceremony.

This new facility marks a crucial step in empowering Ibaan’s weavers, enhancing production capabilities, and promoting sustainable livelihood through traditional Filipino weaving practices.

Congratulations to the SM Sunrise Weaving Association, a proud symbol of Batangas’ thriving cultural heritage and community resilience.
