1,500+ Lipeños served as SM, NGOs, LGUs and Private Sectors unite for Medical Mission

Lipa City – Over 1,500 Lipeños were served from the Medical and Dental Mission spearheaded by SM Foundation and is made in partnership with SM City Lipa, Rotary Club of Lipa, Lipa Medical Society, Lipa Dental Association, Philippine Red Cross Batangas Chapter, Metro Lipa Medical Center, Lipa Medix Medical Center, Mediatrix Medical Center and the Lipa City Government.

The medical mission started at seven in the morning through the registration which was facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office. The registrants, came from the barangays adjacent to SM City Lipa – Balintawak, Marawoy and Sabang. Filwar Veterans from all-over Batangas were also invited to benefit from the medical mission. Philippine Red Cross Volunteers on the other hand are assigned to get the patients’ vital signs while Rotarians act as marshals, providing numbers, organizing lines and makes sure that everyone in the area was taken care of. Doctors and dentists are provided by the City Health Office, Lipa Dental Association, Lipa Medical Society, Lipa Medix and Mediatrix Medical Center

Aside from the free medical consultation and medicines given to 899 beneficiaries, 122 persons were given free tooth extractions, 32 Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) reading, 96 bone scanning, 48 ECG and 43 X-Ray services. Metro Lipa Medical Center also gave urinalysis and hematocrit services to 150 patients and Ideal Vision, gave free eye check up and reading glasses to 180 patients.

Food and refreshments for the volunteers were also taken care of by food shops inside SM Lipa like Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Dunkin Donuts, GoNuts Donuts, Greenwhich, Fruits and Waffles, Red Ribbon and Goldilocks.

According to SM City Lipa PR Officer Wendy Bautista, the medical mission is an SM spearheaded event which entails the participation of the different sectors of the society – LGUs, NGOs, and the private sector- to unite for a common goal of serving the community. “We here at SM are very happy to see how in this once a year event, people of different backgrounds get together under one roof with the purpose of serving the community.”
