Philippines opens first electric jeepney assembly plant in Batangas

In a major step toward a cleaner, more sustainable public transportation system, the Philippines officially opened its first electric jeepney (e-jeepney) assembly plant on April 30 in Lipa City, Batangas. The facility, named the LCS EMON Lima Factory, is owned by Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson and is located within the Lima Estate industrial hub.

The plant is a significant milestone in the government’s Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Program. With a monthly production capacity of at least 500 units, the LCS EMON Lima Factory is poised to become a key player in this national transformation.

The goal is not just to modernize transportation but to save livelihoods and provide long-term, sustainable jobs for Filipinos. The plant is expected to employ nearly 100 local workers, with plans already underway to expand operations to the Visayas and Mindanao in the near future.

Each electric jeepney unit is priced at around ₱1.2 million, and the facility also functions as a full-service center to handle maintenance and repairs. This dual-purpose model is designed to ensure long-term viability and support for operators transitioning to electric fleets.

By opening the country’s first dedicated e-jeepney assembly plant, the LCS EMON Lima Factory is setting a new standard for clean mobility in the Philippines—paving the way for greener commutes, lower emissions, and more sustainable urban development.
