“Together with my mountain bike riding buddies we decided to go to the Municipality of San Luis in Batangas to see the giant statue of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. San Luis is coastal municipality located in the western part of Batangas province near the towns of Lemery, Bauan and Taal. It took us almost two hours of before we reached our destination. No one among us knows what to expect since none of us had been there and the place had just opened last March 2018 during the celebration of the Holy Week.
It was a smooth bike ride from Lipa City to San Luis, passing through the towns of San Jose, Cuenca and Alitagtag. We came across a challenging section of uphill climbing from the town of San Luis which is just a couple of meters from sea level to Brgy. Luya before we reached the entrance of this new pilgrimage place for Catholics. The place is still under development but some essentials were already installed like canteens, snack bar and comfort rooms. We left our bikes at the bottom of the hill to take a short but very steep hike to reach the base of the statue. Upon reaching we were welcomed by the statue’s presence because of its enormity and looking around the clear view of the surrounding landscapes we really felt his presence.
Here are some photos that I want to share to you that might inspire you to visit a future must see pilgrimage destination here in province of Batangas.”
