Kumintang Bridge, Now Under Construction

You probably heard about Kumintang Bridge(Calumpang River, Batangas) that collapsed last Oct. 31 during the height of Bagyong Santi onslaught. Aside from the disheartening father and son’s death caused by the said tragedy, the destruction of the so called “bridge of promise” is now causing traffic related problems among city folks.

To refresh our exhausted memory, here’s a video posted on Youtube, showing the collapsed bridge.

Here is the good news Batanguenos, The public works department of Batangas City has now started repairing the bridge!

The acting secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Victor Domingo, ordered the swift reconstruction of the Bridge of Promise, which he said plays a key role in the transport of petroleum products to Metro Manila.

“We are prioritizing the repair and rehabilitation of destroyed bridges so the people can move and transport goods, especially the Bridge of Promise, which is used by gas tankers to transport gasoline from the depot in Batangas to Metro Manila,” he said.

The reconstruction of the bridge would cost about P76 million and would take about three months to complete.

DPWH Region 4-A director Bonifacio Sequit said parts of the budget would be sourced from Batangas Rep. Hermilando Mandanas’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (pork barrel) for 2010.

  1. Buti na lang sinimulan na nila ang construction. Bigla ko tuloy na appreciate and pagpaparepair ng Sabang Bridge dito sa Lipa dati. As I remember, puro reklamo lang ako nuon nung nirerepair nila yung tulay kasi sobrang traffic. At least matibay na ngayon yung tulay at malayo na yung possibility for collapse. Lesson learned, better be safe than sorry.

  3. oo nga pala ano ms. wendy. mejo matagal ding di nadaanan yung sabang bridge. mukhang matatagalan pa talaga bago magawa yung tulay sa Batangas City. tiis-tiis muna sila.

Iniimbestigahan kaya kung bakit ito nasira in the the first place?
