October 23, 2009 was a festive day in SM City Lipa when the mall vicinity was flooded with different colors of costumes worn by adorable participants from three private elementary schools in Lipa. The SM City Lipa United Nations Day celebration was attended by students from De La Salle Lipa, St. Mary’s Montessori, and Ages and Stages Learning Center.

The Event Center was transformed into a huge palette of hues, beaming with smiles of enthusiastic graders and their proud parents. The Parade of Nations started at around 2:30 in the afternoon. The students walked through the mall area, leaving the mall goers and store tenants with cheers as the participants show off their beautiful UN costumes.

After the parade, the students returned to the Event Center where the contest proper was held. Among the judges were Jun Magana, veteran pageant judge and Director for Student Affairs of Lipa City Colleges; Mary Ann Llamas, Miss Lipa Tourism 2008 1st Runner-Up; Janine Hernandez, Lipa-based fashion designer.

The students went by batch on stage as the judges took closer look of the contestants in their costumes. It was such a joy taking photos of these students. And I could feel the happiness of the proud parents, seeing their children being adored by the audience. They were indeed a bunch of lovable kids; their innocence overflowed.

But still, winners must be chosen in the end. The school with most number of students in UN costume was De La Salle Lipa. The over-all winner of the Best in UN Costume Award was Ms. Honduras (DLSL); Boy with Best UN Costume was Mr. Poland (DLSL); Girl with Best UN Costume was Ms. Honduras (DLSL).
