ONDOY LATEST UPDATES and NDCC Contact Nos. ; PAG-ASA declares Signal No. 1 over Batangas with Typhoon Ondoy

Sept 26, 2009 1900 H
The winds are almost gone and there’s only light rain. But according to the news, the floods are still going up in some parts of Marikina and Rizal. No reports on other provinces, and hopefully Batangas did not take much of a hit. Sen. Gordon has already dispatched rubber boats to Manila from SBMA but they can’t get there because the roads are blocked. Help from the Armed Forces of the Philippines are also sought for rescue operations.

Hindi na ganoong kalakas ang hangin, pero di tumitigil ang ulan. Saw updates from Facebook Friends and it seems there is flooding everywhere. Sa Manila–EDSA, C5 and minor streets are flooded. My sister reports shoulder-high floods in Washington, Makati. Here in Batangas, baha na rin daw sa Highway. Best to stay home because its safer. May ilaw na, so I plugged everything that needs charging. Charge those cellphone batteries guys!!

Follow us on Facebook and post updates yourselves, lalo na dyan sa may inyo. Let’s be safe!

If any of you guys need help, you can call REACT.
Tel. No. (02)9958729 Mobile No. (0918)2080091

Here’s a video by blogger Abe on the current condition of Makati streets.

Also, read Inquirer.Net’s latest flood report.

I don’t believe this. People are stranded in streets flooded waist-high, merong mga nasa bubong na, and ABS-CBN chooses to air CHED’s chairman announcing there are no classes—on a Saturday afternoon. Get the National Disaster Coordination Council for everybody’s sake.

Anlakas ng hangin at ulan sa labas. If this isn’t signal no. 3, it’s a signal no 2 at least. This is although PAG-ASA, as of 4:00 AM, has declared only Signal No. 1 for Batangas and nearby provinces. I’m not sure when they will raise the signal, but I suggest we all just stay home and postpone our plans for the day.

Here’s a satellite image capture of the Philippine weather conditions as of 11AM.

Satellite Image of Philippine Weather Condition - Sept 26, 11 AM by PAG-ASA, Bagyong Ondoy

Details from PAG-ASA:
Issued At: 5:00 a.m., 26 September 2009
Synopsis : At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm “ONDOY” was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 130 kms east southeast of Baler, Aurora or at 90 kms East Northeast of Infanta, Quezon (15.0°N 122.5°E) with maximum winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 19 kph.

I made a mistake with the title and assumed Ondoy to be a typhoon. They are calling it a tropical storm and not strictly a typhoon. Yes, magkaiba pala sila, and according to wiki, mas mahina ang tropical storm at wala itong “mata” kumpara sa isang bagyo. Ibig sabihin, di pa talaga bumabagyo. Palagay nyo?
