Alternate Route in Taysan, Batangas for LPG and CNG Transport, Under Reinforcement

taysan bridgeThe Bridge of Promise connecting the villages of Kumintang Ibaba and Gulod Labac is still impassable. To avoid disruption of transport of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas, the Department of Energy (DOE) found an alternative route going to the Tabangao, Batangas where the CNG loading station is situated.

The destruction of the Bridge of Promise caused huge problem on Batanguenos as well as people form other cities in Luzon who are depending on the CNG and LPG being transported from one point to another, passing the said bridge. Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes informed Public Works Secretary Victor Domingo about their assessment of the alternate route in Taysan, Batangas.

But another problem occured in the said assessment. DOE have found out that the road and bridge in Taysan is needing of reinforcement but they have expressed confidence that the road may still be used. The provincial engineer will supervise the construction to be assisted by Taysan’s municipal engineer in the construction and repairs that was scheduled Dec. 11.

Upon rehabilitation, DOE said the bridge is projected to withstand 25 tons by Dec. 17 and an additional 25 tons on Dec. 28.

But Ernst Wanten, president and managing director of Total Philippines Corp., said that the alternate route in Taysan is a very difficult route, that trucks may take another two to three hours of travel.

On the other hand, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp.’s vice president for communication said that reinforcement of the Taysan bridge is targeted to be completed by the end of the month.
