(January 23, 2010) – Lipa Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles have called on the parish priests and faithful in the Archdiocese of Lipa to earmark all Pro Populo Masses tomorrow for the local church’s financial help to Haiti, devastated by a 7+ intensity earthquake recently. The directive was given mid-week through the office of the Vicar General and Moderator Curiae, Msgr. Ruben Dimaculangan. Presently, all the second collection during Sunday Masses are set aside for the St. Joseph Seniorate, whch houses the retired, elderly and sickly priests of the Archdiocese.
Msgr. Ruben also appealed that the parish priests motivate their parishioners and especially the students at the Catholic schools to “fatten” their contributions, just like they do during Christmas and Lenten drives.

“This will also show our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Haiti,” the Archbishop declared. ”It is a fitting witness to our theme for this third and final year of our preparation in celebrating our centennial year.”

“Communion and Solidarity” is the theme of the Year of St. Joseph, which will formally end on March 20, 2010. On April 10, 2010, in a grand solemn High Mass, the two top prelates of the country, His Eminences Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales and Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, both former Archbishops of Lipa, will join Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and other bishops of the Metropolitan Province of Lipa, in declaring the year-long Jubilee at the San Sebastian Cathedral, Lipa City.
