WOWBatangas Team is right here at San Juan, Batangas for the LAMBAYOK Festival 2009. The team arrived here just in time for the folk dance competition participated by nine elementary schools.
Tipas Elementary School
San Juan East Central School - Champion
Buhaynasapa Elementary School
San Juan Children's Center
Libato Elementary School - 2nd Runner-Up
Calubcub I Elementary School - 1st Runner-Up
Talahiban Elementary School
Sapangan Elementary School
San Juan West Central School
The participating students gracefully showed their talent in dancing, making the San Juaneo crowd proud and entertained. It was a karatong dance competiton, a folk dance which originated form Palawan in which the male dancers are holding the karatong instruments. The folk dance competition showcases the cultural heritage of the people of San Juan, Batangas.
The dance competition for the high school level resembles LAMBAYOK Festival which focuses on San Juan’s three main industries – lambanog (coconut wine or coconut vodka), palayok (clay pot), and karagatan (their booming resort industry).
The event started with a parade where each participating group then danced on the street. The sun’s too high and the pavement was too hot, yet the dancers energetically moved to the beat of their music. Really deserving of the applauses and cheers of the audience.
Here’s the result of the dance competition for the high school level:
Palahanan National High School – 1st Place
Buhaynasapa National High School – 2nd Place
Tipas National High School – 3rd Place
The Over-all Events and Festival Chairperson is Coun. Rodello “Bibingka” A. De Chavez.
