Background

The 440th Aircraft Maintenance Group dedicates its 2nd Family Fun Run to the orphans of Sr. Maria Bertilla Vangelista Home for Children. The event aims to promote health and fitness as well as to extend a helping hand to the community.

About the Beneficiaries

The Sr. Maria Bertilla Vangelista Home for Children is an orphanage dedicated to Sr. Maria Bertilla Vangelista, a member of the Congregation, who strongly desired to continue the work of Mother Chiara Biagotti in the care of the poor, abandoned and orphaned children.

The Home envisions educated young girls to be Christ-centered, instruments of peace, agents of wholesome growth and development who love their fellowmen by doing works of charity.

13 orphans with ages 4 to 14 will be the beneficiaries of the run for a cause.

The Venue

Fernando Air Base is the Summer Capital of the Philippine Air Force located at 1,220 feet above sea level in the City of Lipa, Batangas Province. A 220 hectare sugar cane field, the Japanese used it as an airfield during World War II.

Today Fernando Air Base is the home of the Air Education and Training Command of the PAF where every airman is trained to become professional and competent soldiers, leaders and defenders of the Philippine nation.

Fun Run Detials

The Run for the Orphans 2012 will be on Saturday, March 24, 2012, 4:00 P.M. Assembly and Onsite Registration starts at 3:00 P.M. at the Fernando Air Base Grandstand, Lipa City, Batangas.

500 Meter Dash
– Children 6-9 years old
– Children 10-12 years old

5K Open
– Open Male and Female 13 years old and above
– Barefoot Open

Gun Starts

500m – 4:30 P.M.
3K and 5K – 5:00 P.M.

Dress codes for the event:

500m dash – wear white
3K – wear blue
5K- wear red

Registration Fee: P50.00 per runner

Children who ran in the 500m dash may run the 3K at no added fee.

On-site registration starts at 3:00PM and will officially close at 4:15 P.M. on D-day, March 24, 2012 at the Fernando Air Base Grandstand.

Only runners who made reservations via TEXT or EMAIL can make on-site registration.

Last day for TEXT or EMAIL reservations will be at 5PM on March 23, 2012.

For security purposes, bring a valid ID to be deposited at the Guard Desk at the Main Gate of Air Base. IDs will be given back once you go out of the Air Base.

Proceeds of the fun run will be given to the beneficiary in cash or in kind during the awarding program.

Finisher’s Certificate will be given to all runners who cross the finish line.

Medals and/or certificates will be given to the top 3 finishers in each category. Special Awards will also be given.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE PRICE & THE PRIZES. THIS IS HAVING FUN WITH A NOBLE CAUSE.

THIS IS A RUN FOR A CAUSE. KAWANG-GAWA o BAYANIHAN FOR THE ORPHANS. You join to be one with the cause.

You are highly encouraged to bring anything you want to give to the orphans. You can hand them personally to the orphans during the event.

How to go to Fernando Air Base from Manila?

Via Provincial Bus – Take a Batangas bound bus from any of South Bus Terminals in Buendia, Alabang, EDSA-Pasay City, EDSA-Quezon City or Ali Mall Cubao. Chose via SLEX-STARTOLLWAY/CALBARZON for faster travel. Dismount at Tambo, Lipa Exit. This takes an hour of travel at P120-P130 fare. Take Mataas na Kahoy bound jeepney and tell the driver to drop you atthe Air Base. 5-10 mins jeepney ride @ P7. Enter the main gate and deposit a valid ID to the guard and inform him that you will be joining in the fun run.

Via Private Car – Take (SKYWAY) SLEX straight to STARTOLLWAY/CALABARZON interconnection then exit at Tambo, Lipa Exit. Total toll fee is P274 one way. Turn left then 5-10 mins you will see a large tarpaulin of the air base on your right followed by the main gate. Enter the main gate and deposit a valid ID / Driver’s License to the guard and inform him that you will be joining in the fun run in the Grandstand.

Via Jeepney from Lipa City Proper – Take a jeepney ride going Mataas na Kahoy or Batangas or Lemery. Tell the driver to drop you off the Fernando Air Base Main Gate. Fare is P7. Enter the main gate and deposit a valid ID to the guard and inform him that you will be joining in the fun run.
