Filipinos, Mexicans Unite for Jessica Sanchez to Win ‘American Idol 2012’

Filipinos and Mexicans often go against each other on the boxing ring. But people of the two countries will unite to make a young singer win America’s leading singing competition.

When a Filipino takes the spotlight anywhere in the world, either for a heroic deed or for achieving a talent recognition, the rest of the country rejoices. It creates a magnificent unifying force, it can give you “goosies”.

Tomorrow, 16-year-old Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez will sing for the greatest battle she is about to face and, we all hope, be the first American Idol with a Filipino heritage.

We’re sure you have heard a lot about the young singer especially if you’re an avid fan of American Idol. You get excited with her every performances and are looking forward to what song she’s going to sing for the week. And even before AI gets aired on ETC (the local channel that brings American Idol on free Philippine TV), you check Twitter, entertainment blogs, and the ever reliable YouTube for early updates about how Jessica has performed. We get you. Because we do this every week. 🙂

Jessica Sanchez was born in Chula Vista, San Diego, California on August 4, 1995 to Filipino mother Editha Bugay-Sanchez from Bataan and Gilbert Sanchez, a US Navy veteran who is of Mexican-American descent. Jessica has two younger brothers. Her maternal grandfather, Eddie Bugay, is a retired US Navy sailor.

Will Jessica Sanchez win American Idol Season 11It is known to everyone that Jessica is indeed blessed with amazing vocal prowess that is so evident even at such a young age. She’s only 16 but she can sing songs of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, and Michael Jackson, in a way that’s at par with the original.

What I personally like about Jessica is her inner “swag”. She has the personality that matches her talent. When she sings on stage, she’s got that presence to impress or inspire her audience. She’s already there. But since American Idol is a contest, it’s still the votes that will dictate the fate of Jessica Sanchez or Philip Phillips.

We know a lot of Filipinos are praying that Jessica would win American Idol Season 11. We know she can but we still have to give a little more push in voting as Phil’s supporters are not going to give up the fight, more so now that their ‘Idol’ is up head-to-head with the little girl with a big voice, Jessica.

To have another Filipino gaining admiration and love from millions of people across the globe is a pride among us her kababayans. We hope she’s just as proud being a Filipino.

If you’re in the Philippines, you can show your support to Jessica by voting via Facebook. This link directs you to that application which will re-open after Ryan Seacrest has announced that voting is officially on. If you’re in the US, you know the numbers to call. 😉

Jessica Sanchez, whether you win American Idol or not, you are still a Philippine Pride. With all the love and support from the Philippines, good luck!

This is one of Jessica’s most unforgettable performances as she sings Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’.
