Batangas Artists Join Forces in Attempt to Break World Record of Longest Painting on Canvas

In celebration of UNESCO’s International Decade for Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for Children of the World (2001-2010) and the Arts Month, Chelony’s Artworkshop Tutorial Center headed the On-the-Spot Painting Contest at the Event Center of SM City Lipa on Feb. 28, 2010.

The event entitled, On-the-Spot Painting Contest: A Decade of Peace, Love and Unity, brought together the talented artists of Batangas, including Alva – WOWBatangas Team’s resident artist, in this worthwhile endeavor in the attempt of putting the Philippines in the Guinness Book of World Records as the country with the longest painting in the world. The winners in this event will automatically be part of the record-breaking painting experience to complete the targeted seven-kilometer long acrylic painting on continuous canvas.

The current world record measures a five-kilometer long canvas and the Philippines aim to steal the world record by making a canvas which is two kilometers longer than the record holder. This on-the-spot painting contest is an introduction to another bigger event in Batangas City which will transpire this coming April (final date is yet to be announced). That will be the conclusion of this world record painting event as artists from different parts of the country join forces for the pride and glory of the country.

The painting event at SM City Lipa was made possible with the participation of Lapian ng mga Pintor at Iskultor (LAPIS), Welcoat (MLD Paints), Net Play, Aileen’s Catering, Larry K, 101.5 Hot FM, and many others.

Initiating this longest painting event is the On The Spot Artistic Association. As of the moment, the completed canvas already measures approximately five kilometers. Once the seven-kilometer long acrylic painting has been completed, it will be sent to Cairo, Egypt for the Guinness Book of World Records.
