We often hear the term OTOP on trade fairs showcasing the products of a particular town or city in the Philippines.

The One Town One Product (OTOP) is a priority program of government to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs. Through OTOP, local chief executives of each city and municipality take the lead in identifying, developing and promoting a specific product or service, which has a competitive advantage.

OTOP Philippines supports micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to manufacture, offer and market distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents. (otopphilippines.org)

In the recent Provincial Trade Fair held in Calaca as part of the Ala Eh! Festival, we hopped from one LGU booth to another to see the products each town is known for.

Pilipinas Got Talent, the number one talent search here in the Philippines has gathered talented Filipinos from different provinces.

All contestants as shown in the Philippine television were craving for the PGT season 3 Champion title.

Of course magpapahuli ba naman ang mga Batangueno? Yes, there are lots of Batanguenos who tried their luck for said competition.

Fortunately, from the thousands of auditionees, a group from Batangas made it to the Finals.

The first group to enter PGT finals is none other than the El Gamma Penumbra group. The viewers were captivated with their unique performance from audition to semi-finals.

All the way from Tanauan City, Batangas, the group showed a majestic performance with their creative shadow play.

When I saw them performing during auditions and semi finals of PGT, I was really amazed and so were the other viewers I know. I’m glad that they were the first finalist to compete for the PGT Grand Finals.

Will they step next to Jovit Baldivino? Hope so.

Well, with our support and their determination, it’s not impossible for them to win. Good luck and more power El Gamma Penumbra!

More from El Gamma Penumbra’s success will be posted (maybe even an interview) here in wowbatangas.com soon. So stay put.

Despite the bad weather; God blessed the Tanaueños with a fabulous day to celebrate the cityhood of their town.

Highlighting Tanauan’s long week celebration of its city foundation anniversary is the Parade and the Opening of the Sumang Magkayakap Festival held last March 10, 2011.

A parade took place at 6 AM. It started from Plaza Mabini and ended in the City Hall. A contest of suman eating was held after the parade. The whole area of the city hall grounds was totally crowded. Gracing the event is the presence of our Moslem sisters and brothers.

The opening ceremony of the Sumang Magkayakap Festival started with inspirational messages from Hon. Vice Mayor, Julius Ceasar G. Platon II, and the Hon. Mayor, Sonia Torres Aquino. After that, the festival was formally opened. A colourful Street dance number performed by selected students of Tanauan City National Higschool and a folk dance presentation from the Moslem community topped the wonderful occasion.

Another activity also took place entitled Fabulous @ 10 which featured the world class performance of Follies de Mwah of Mwah Club.

Tanauan was incorporated as a city under Republic Act No. 9005, signed on February 2, 2001 and ratified on March 10, 2001.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanauan_City)

Tanauan has got a new beauty queen. Her name is Nolin Meribel Realingo.

It was a night of beauty, wit, and elegance as 34 candidates vied for the Bb. Tanauan 2011 title. But among the competing ladies, one emerged as a standout. It was Nolin’s night as she brought home the crown and the pride of her barangay, Brgy. Sulpoc.

The Bb. Tanauan 2011 candidates presented themselves on stage in various wardrobes: the ala-Lady Gaga outfit in their opening number, casual wear, swimsuit, and evening gown.

Nervousness flourished both on stage and at the back stage. They were all winners in their own right. But Nolin captivated the judges and is now the reigning Bb. Tanauan.

Gracing the event is the mayor of Tanauan City, Hon. Sonia Torres-Aquino and Hon. Vice Mayor Julius Platon. The UB Dancers also

Congratulations to the rest of the winners and to the organizers of the pageant. Bb. Tanauan 2011 was another event of undaunted hard work of the locals of Tanauan City. Special thanks to the Community Affairs Office- kay Tita Anne, Tita Remy, Angelo and to choreographer Paul Agustin and team. Another job well done!

NOTE: Names of the complete set of winners will follow later.

Tanauan 2011 this afternoon and caught the candidates in one of their dance routines. These girls have been practicing really hard for some weeks now and they deserve all the support from their ka-barangays that they can get. While watching the candidates, we learned that the barangay of the winning candidate gets P250,000 from the City Government, while the Bb. Tanauan 2011 herself brings home P50,000. Nice!

If you would like to cast your vote for your candidate, please go to this album on our Facebook page, and like your bet’s picture. Meanwhile, here’s something to watch while we are all waiting for the pageant night.

December 7, 2010, SM City Lipa – Ten mini-bands signed and showed up for the Drum and Lyre Competition, one of the main events of the celebration of the 429th Founding Anniversary of Batangas. For the first time, this competition is being held outside of the Batangas Capitol in Batangas City, and this year’s host is Lipa.

At exactly 1pm, the competing mini-bands paraded from the left side of SM Lipa going to the front parking where the actual performances took place. The participating schools drew lots for their respective numbers, and it seemed from the spectator’s point-of-view that no one wanted to go first. But once call time begins, the participants, aged 6 years old to 12 year old, showed their talents in music and dancing to the audience with enthusiasm no matter what order they performed, and whether the sun was shining directly on them or there was a drizzle.

Each band was identified through their colorful costumes and remarkable musical arrangement. Some opted for rock music, while some others went for classical and contemporary. One notable performance was from one of the trainers who headbanged with their band members. Another trainer, Buddy Arnigo of Maghinaw Elementary School, Bauan, Batangas said that the preparations were not that easy in terms of the musical instruments and costumes. He was a trainer since 1994 and he speaks from experience about how easily anything from costume, to wrong notes and choreography can go wrong.

The winners were chosen based on 1) the musicality and 2) overall performance. The judges were Mr. Ambrose Azucena, Mr. Bobit Macapagal, Mr. George Cabullo, Mr. Jun Mapa, and Mr. Floy Quintos, who is the chairman of the board of Judges.

Different emotions from the contestants and parents showed all throughout the announcement of winners. Kids were already crying even before the 2nd placer was announced, and some were even hugging their fellow bandmates. Suddenly, it dawned on them that the weeks of hard practice will either be compensated or disappear into nothing in the next few minutes while the judges read their verdict. With their outstanding performance and uniqueness, the mini band from Lemery, Batangas (total score : 93.5) declared as the first place and received 75,000 pesos and trophy. Second place was Maghinaw Elementary School Band from Bauan, Batangas (91.5) and thry received 50,000 pesos and trophy. The third place went to first-time joiners from Tuy, Batangas(91.25) and they received 25,000 pesos and trophy.

JR got to pose with arguably the best dancer/majorette of the competition from Grand Winner mini-band from Lemery. See most of the pictures that we took just hours ago.

Tanauan City – Pinangunahan nina Pangulong Benigno C. Aquino III, Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO John Miller, Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines Ivo Siber, Batangas Vice Governor Jose Antonio Leviste, Tanauan City Mayor Sonia Torres Aquino at Sto.

Want to see some exciting games? Witness the 12th Season of NCAA-South as 10 schools battle for the championship titles. Ignite your school’s spirit!

News Release

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-South launched its newest season on August 12, 2010. First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH)-Tanauan City, Batangas, season 12 Host School, spearheaded the kick-off activity.

The kick-off activity dubbed as “The NCAA-SOUTH Hour” was a simultaneous activity in the 10 member-schools of the athletic association. Each school was linked to one another via social media, Yahoo messenger, website updates and mobile communication. This was the first time for NCAA-South to have a simultaneous activity that utilizes the technology tools now available.

“We want to reach as many students as possible and make them interested about the NCAA-South games and events. Practically all of the students in all member schools have social media and e-mail accounts. Utilizing these tools will help us reach these young people,” said Atty. Gay Marie M. Francisco, FAITH Vice President and Chairman of the Season 12 Organizing Committee.
