When creating to-go-to lists, Batangas should not be missed out.

Of course, we have world-class destinations here that local and foreign tourists are visiting every now and then.

Batangueño hospitality is another reason why non-natives are fond of staying in our province. Oh, don’t forget the food! Batangas cuisine is definitely one of the bests in the country.

And in Gia Recio’s blog yesterday for FemaleNetwork.com, she included the towns of Nasugbu and Anilao (barangay, actually) in the 30 Must-Visit Philippine Towns and Cities list.

Why visit Nasugbu?

Nasugbu is a 1st class municipality in the province and is popular among travelers who love going to the beach, camping, and trekking.

Mt. Batulao is Nasugbu’s pride. The dramatic slopes and land formations you would see when you reach any of the two peaks is, I bet, one of the most exhilarating ways to experience the natural beauty of Batangas.

Here’s a quick note from our resident mountaineer, Alva:

Dabest dun.”

This phenomenon which happens in December was where the name “Batulao” originated from. When the sun sets between the twin peaks, the surrounding rocks appeared to be illuminated hence the phrase “bato sa ilao” which they shortened and eventually became “batulao”.

Nasugbu also cradles the posh resort Terrazas de punta Fuego, the Chapel of Transformation in Caleruega which is a famous option for intimate weddings, Sandari Batulao which is the first residential resort situated on a mountainside, and another residential area which is the Kawayan Cove.

Beach bums and island hoppers should not miss Tali Beach, Twin Island and Fortune Island. Aren’t these enough reasons why you should head to Nasugbu anytime soon?

Photo insert shows the statues of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and two of his men located on this Nasugbu beach to commemorate the start of the liberation of Luzon from the Japanese invasion. The local government celebrates its foundation anniversary every 31st of January (and that’s today), the day of the Nasugbu landing.

Why visit Anilao?

Anilao is paradise for divers. It is such a lovely destination both over and under the sea.

Anilao’s marine sanctuary is one of the most precious gems of the province and we hope people would continue to preserve the magnificence under its waters.

Situated in the town of Mabini, Anilao is also a point to be at for mountain climbers. I love the way I say “Mt. Gulugod Baboy”, which you’d never hear here. Haha.

Here’s what Alva has to say about the “climber-friendly” Mt. Gulugod Baboy:

Did we give you good reasons to visit Nasugbu and Anilao? Don’t just count on the words that excite you here. Go and explore more of Batangas. We guarantee you the best summer adventure here. Winks.

Is it because of the captivating sunset or the obvious attractiveness of the beaches down here? Batangas is one of the most popular picks of celebrities as wedding venue. Ever wondered why?

A few days ago, January 12, Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa tied the knot in Club Balai Isabel in Talisay. Last month, on December 22, 2010, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez and The Songwriter Ogie Alcasid made their dream wedding a reality as they exchange vows at Terrazas de Punta Fuego in Nasugbu. In April 28, 2009, Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo surprised everyone with their very private wedding – ceremony was held in San Juan Nepomuceno Church in San Juan and the reception was held at the other Balai in Anilao.

These are all much-awaited and much-talked about weddings. They are big stars who chose to celebrate the grandest and most special day of their lives here in our beloved Batangas. Isn’t it romantic? Hmmm… Could Batangas be tagged as the “Wedding Venue of the Stars”? ♥

Maybe because of the lovely beaches we’ve got here. Or maybe because of the privacy they could have in the mentioned places of our province. Or maybe because there’s something romantic and special here in our province that captivates these celebrity couples.

Definitely, maybe. Sounds like a movie? These are sweet realities.

What do you think?

There are quite a number of environmental issues in the country today causing panic to people affected. With proper actions to be done by people in authority, we are just hoping for immediate resolution to prevent further damage to occur.

Press Release
Batangas Capitol

Gov. Vi, PDCC press for action on Nasugbu coal spill

Gov. Vilma Santos Recto, in an emergency meeting of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) last July 26, 2010, appealed to all concerned parties to immediately take proper actions to avoid a possible environmental disaster after a coal-loaded barge that ran aground in Nasugbu spilled 40% of its cargo.

The PDCC chairperson likewise urged barge-owner PT Transpower Marine, through its Indonesian representative Didik Surdianto, to act on their responsibilities as the coal spill could damage marine life in Batangas Bay, endanger life of residents and tourists and jeopardize the local economy.

PT Transpower was already in contact with a salvage company to remove the damaged vessel from the bay. Phil. Coast Guard’s Southern Tagalog district director Commodore Cecil Cheng added that the Singapore-based barge owner shall shoulder all expenses, including the cleaning operations of the affected area.

At the height of typhoon “Basyang” last July 14, the towing line of the barge bound for Manila and loaded with 8,000 metric tons of coal broke, causing the boat to drift to shallow waters off Brgy. Wawa. Huge waves caused the overloaded barge to tilt and force out about 3,200 tons of coal.

Also present during the meeting were, among others, Batangas PNP Director Sr.Supt. Alberto Supapo; Prov. Admin. Victor Reyes; Chief of Staff Pedrito Martin M. Dijan, Jr.; Batangas Coast Guard commander Lt. Cmdr. Troy Cornelio; and, Nasugbu MPDC Reynaldo Garcia. (Vince Altar/OPG-PIO)

Typhoon Basyang took 38 lives in the CALABARZON area and left with unexpected destructions in the region. The country is still up to face around 20 more typhoons towards the end of the year.

The provincial government of Batangas has given financial assistance to the victims of Basyang all over the province. Monetary support was provided to the families of the victims who were killed when Basyang hit Luzon last Tuesday.

The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council, together with the provincial Chief of Staff and Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, visited parts of the province which suffered the most – Talisay and Laurel.

Donations and other forms of assistance were also provided to victims who are still in evacuation centers in the towns of Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Talisay, Laurel, and Balayan.

Yesterday I included eating comfort food in the Five Ways to Enjoy the Rainy Days article. Here in Batangas, one of the common comfort foods for the locals might be the hearty beef, bone marrow soup popularly known as bulalo.

Batangas is known for this meal since the province is one of the main producers of beef all over the country. With Padre Garcia as the Cattle Trading Capital of the Philippines, the demand for the best grown cattle in the region has been sufficed not only by this municipality as there are various towns in the province which are contributing to the cattle farming industry.

Okay, let’s go back to Batangas bulalo. Main ingredients of bulalo are the beef shanks, bone marrow, and vegetable such as cabbage, potato, string beans, pechay, and corn. How to cook bulalo, I’d leave everything to you.

Can you now imagine the comfort you could get with a bowl of beef bulalo? Let the rain fall down the window pane as you take a spoonful of this soup into your mouth down to your stomach. Oh, take Batangas bulalo as the best and I couldn’t agree more.

Where can you find the best Batangas bulalo?

Batangas is lined with bulalo restaurants and all you have to do is to find them all. There’s Rose & Grace Restaurant (Sto. Tomas), Kainan sa Dalampasigan (Nasugbu), Irene’s Bulalo sa Kubo (Batangas City), and Almarius Grill (Lipa City). I bet there are still a lot of bulalo restaurants in your hometown. And with this, you know what to do.

P.S.
Don’t forget the plain rice, the patis, and the devilicious chilli.

WWF officials said in an email to the Philippines News Agency that the whale was found in a weakened condition by a fisherman on a beach in the Batangas Bay in Barangay Calayo, Nasugbu.

According to WWF, the Bryde’s whale bore 16 wounds the size of a peso coin caused by a cookie cutter shark’s bites. The whale’s age was estimated at five years old.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office in Calaca, Manila South Coast Development Corporation, Nasugbu Tourism and Philippine National Police (pnp) – Nasugbu as well as the local government led by barangay chairman Miguel Limeta immediately responded to the whale which was stranded at the bay.

The whale was injected with an antibiotic (Streptomycin Limopenstrep), and then regained its strength. It was almost noon when the whale was able to go back to deeper waters.
