She may not have the most number of special awards but she outwit the other 13 candidates and bagged the title. Honey Vanessa Ramirez of Brgy. IV is the newly crowned Miss Mataasnakahoy 2012.

Over-all, it was a good competition. All the girls were at their loveliest last night which made all their stage appearances the much-anticipated parts of the event.

Aside from the Talent and the Creative Costume Competitions (see photos in this link) which was held last Dec. 30, the candidates also competed in the Sexy Outfit and Modern Filipiniana Gown competitions last night.

The girls were given gift packages from Mary Kay and Hershey’s courtesy of Jerome Ticatic.

The first question and answer portion was for the rest of the candidates. They handpicked the questions, some trivial, some very pageant-ish.

Shortly before the announcement of the TOP 7 finalists, the girls paraded on stage clad in red, black, and white evening gowns courtesy of Janine Fashion Collection.

It was the final Q&A that helped the judges to conclude the pageant’s results. This was where Vanessa answered the question in stride. She was asked what and when her best moment is. Vanessa replied that it was joining the Miss Mataasnakahoy 2012 pageant that she considered her best moment where she was given the chance to represent her barangay and the opportunity to prove herself deserving the slot and and the title.

Racing pigeons are one of nature’s near perfect flying machines. They are exceptional navigators. Always finding their way home across towns, cities or anywhere in the country. Racing pigeons are our feathered warrior friends.

Racing pigeons have powerful wings. Airplanes fly at great speed because of rigid wings and powerful engines work together. But racing pigeons are high flying Ferraris. Their super strong frame are like powerful engines. Accelerating from 0 to 50 kph in seconds. Flying non-stop for hundreds of kilometers. A lot of these powerhouse birds are now in the lofts of the members of the Racing Pigeons of Mataasnakahoy (RPM).

Yes, the highly competitive racing tradition is very much alive today in Mataasnakahoy. Lots of loft owners train their racing pigeons. Everyday, they releases the birds from various distances. And every time the racing pigeons races home at great speed. Averaging 80 kilometers an hour.

The RPM upcoming all bird’s race requires birds to be in peak condition. To maintain the pigeons 80 kilometer per hour speed, they must flip their wings 30,000 times. An endurance no human can match. The pigeons muscular chest requires 10 times more oxygen than at rest, so everyone of them has a unique respiratory system. Pushing oxygen in and out of their lungs to oxygenate their muscles. High octane energy to sustain their muscles. In Mataasnakahoy, RPM racing pigeons are the master flyers of the sky.

Racing pigeons do what they do best… Fly.

And here in Mataasnakahoy, our racing pigeons fly high at great speed towards home!

RPM is all set to go to the extremes by making plans for an open sprint race event this coming June 05, 2011. More than 100 birds will be loaded for the race and around 30 loft owners will compete for the championship prize. The event is organized by RPM Honorary Adviser Edgar Pili, Officer-In-Charge – Gie Galicia and RPM Race Event Organizer – Niel Recinto.

In gratitude of their continuous support to WOWBatangas.com, we’d like to highlight three of the best resorts here in Batangas which contributed to the growth of this website.

As an advertiser, a client, or an event partner, each of these three resorts here in the province has its own special features to offer. They are all lovely and more than that, the owners of these resorts have genuine kindness which makes visiting these destinations a very rewarding experience.

You may treat this as the part two of the Best Resorts in Batangas entry the other day. Then again, we only like to show our appreciation to these three summer destinations.

Shercon Resort and Ecology Park

They are one of our valued supporters here in WOWBatangas.com. Shercon Resort and Ecology Park boasts of a great view of the Taal Lake as well. I’ve seen the expansion, the growth of Shercon Resort throughout the years and with that comes the realization that more and more people are having the best of time in Shercon Resort and Ecology Park.

They also have the infinity pool which most resort visitors are actually attracted to nowadays. I personally like the Club Manuel Cabins. They’re simple and comfy yet very stylish.

Shercon Resort and Ecology Park has child-friendly facilities like the playground and the ecology park which will allow your kids to have unlimited fun. And what do you get in return? Priceless moments just seeing your kids laugh and play under the sun.

Opening this summer are almost Olympic size swimming pool, third kiddie pool, and Club Manuel Hall which can accommodate 200-300 guests overlooking Taal Lake.

<
La Leona Resort, Lipa City

The last time we went there, it was like we have the whole world as our concert stage. Haha. La Leona has this certain relaxation vibe which will hit you and allow you to just bum around and have a good time. Their La Leona Cabana can accommodate a maximum of 20 people so if you have a large group of friends, this one will suit you.

Get to know more about the accommodation and other facilities in La Leona Resort by clicking the link.

Abby’s Garden Resort, Taal

Not a lot of people know that Taal also has quite a number of recreation sites and among these are swimming pool resorts. Abby’s Garden Resort is one of the resorts you can try visiting this summer. Also, if you live in Taal or on a nearby area, catch Abby’s Garden Resort’s summer activities.

One special feature of this resort is the technology they’re using in cleaning their swimming pool – a technology called Caribbean Clear.

Since it opened, a lot of special events were held here, oftentimes are weddings. For other celebrations and company events, you may check out Abby’s Garden Resort website for more details.

Adults often stay at home during Christmas Day because they expect visitors (bunch of godchildren and young relatives) to see them and to get their presents. Well, that’s for those with godchildren and those who take on the role of the big, fat, gift-giving guy Santa Claus.

For kids, they want to be out of the house because (1) they want to immediately get their gifts from their godparents, (2) they have to show off their new set of Christmas clothes and shoes, (3) they just don’t want to be stucked in the house thinking the rest of the kids in the world are having a merry Christmas outside.

I’ve got some places you could visit this Christmas in case the young ones insist of celebrating Christmas anywhere but your house.

SPOILER ALERT: These are destinations in Lipa City and one in Mataasnakahoy. Leave a comment if you know of a place in your hometown that’s worth visiting this Christmas.

La Virginia Resort & Hotel (Brgy. Manggahan, Mataasnakahoy)

Early warning: it’s too cold to swim ’cause the temperature in Mataasnakahoy could get really cold during Christmas season so if you don’t want to start sneezing on your way home, do some other things. And here comes the Zipline Rides! Yes, this is La Virginia’s current favorite attraction among its visitors, with the gorgeous view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano to marvel at during the ride.

Two-way ride with photo frame costs P300.00, while the two-way ride plus photo mug rates at P400.00. You have to pay a separate amount for the resort’s entrance fee though. It’s P300.00 for adults and P200.00 for the kids.

Bluroze Farms (Brgy. Lodlod, Lipa City)

Why not go on a Christmas picnic? Kids, and kids at heart, would enjoy a lot of activities here. Roam around the mini-zoo and get up close (but not too close) with the non-human creatures there. Bluroze has vast open grounds for kids to run freely while the ladies dine at the restaurant and the gentlemen play hoops at the court.

For a large family visit, divide yourselves into groups and race to the other end of the Bluroze maze. If you get tired doing all these stuffs, sit on the tire swings and feel like a child again as you swing to and fro. Scream all you want, it’s the best way to enjoy this humble ride.

Below are for young adults who are planning to meet old friends for a Christmas reunion.

Aristeo’s (Brgy. Antipolo, Lipa City)

Now one of the most frequently visited spots around Lipa, Aristeo’s will provide you a favorable atmosphere and a dining experience all reasonably priced. You’re lucky if there aren’t too many people there so you can choose from the spots inside the restaurant. This is so far the most recommended place we have on the list where you can bring your favorite people to.

Tip: Go there at night or just right before sunset, you’ll be provided with quite a lovely view on the horizon when you reach the upper deck.

1984 (Ayala Hi-Way), L.A.X. Bar and Resto (Brgy. Sico), Club Stratosphere (Blue Sapphire, Brgy. Sico)

These are three of the hottest gimik spots in Lipa City. If you and your friends are the kind who enjoy urban fun, celebrate Christmas in any of these three. But manage some clean fun and don’t get too tipsy. Santa Claus might get annoyed and mark you naughty, not nice.

Batangas provincial government agreed to declare an impending state of calamity on 12 municipalities as Taal Volcano is still in rage. As of press time, alert level 2 is still up for the world’s smallest volcano.

Among the 12 towns and cities declared under the impending state of calamity are the municipalities of Talisay, San Nicolas, Laurel, Balete, Agoncillo, Cuenca, Lemery, Mataasnakahoy, Alitagtag, Sta. Teresita, and the cities of Lipa and Tanauan.

Vice Governor Mark Leviste stated that he local government units will be using their calamity funds. According to 2nd district Board Member Joel Atienza, the province has a calamity fund of P85 million for 2010 but will only utilize 30% of the budget while the declared status is impending.

Government officials already advised residents living near the vicinity of Taal Lake as preliminary caution to a possible eruption.

This year, Coconut Festival-Street Dancing Competition was one of the highlights of the 78th Foundation Anniversary of the municipality with the theme: “Ikaw, Ako, Tayong Lahat, Sama-sama sa Layuning Pangkaunlaran”.

Ten elementary schools around town specifically La Purisima Conception Academy and the elementary schools of Bayorbor, Nangkaan, Lumang Lipa, Bubuyan, Kinalaglagan, Loob, Calingatan, and Mataas na Kahoy Central School competed for the coco street dance contest. Vigorous cheers from little kids of each participating team made the celebration a vibrant one.

Moreover, the uniqueness of each group in terms of costumes and choreography also made the contest more competitive. While each group performed their utmost presentations, the crowd also cheered as sign of support for their fellows.
