Eleven high schools from different parts of Batangas battled to be Karibok ang Tuktok’s next champion. This is an annual event of UP Batangan - an academic, nonprofit, nonpolitical, and socio-civic organization composed of students in UP Diliman who have roots in the province of Batangas.

Karibok ang Tuktok now celebrates its 28th year with the theme: The Youth and the 2010 Elections: Catalysts Toward a Changed Nation. Karibok ang Tuktok is an academic battle among competing high schools in the province.

The delegations were: Banaba West National High School, Batangas State University-Integrated School, Canossa Academy, De La salle Lipa, Fame Academy of Science and Arts, Marian Learning Center and Science High School, Regis Benedictine Academy, St. Bridget College, St. Francis Academy, Sta. Teresa College, and Our Lady of Caysasay Academy.

At around four in the afternoon, winners of the four competitions were declared.

With the aim to promote awareness on the importance of caring for the environment and its natural resources, faculty and student of Saint Bridget College (SBC) conducted a tree planting activity at old Tingga dumpsite, Aug. 15.

Two Hundred fifty (250) students from grades one to six participated in the said activity. They planted 150 Mahogony trees provided by Batangas City local government in cooperation with ng City Environment and Natural Resources Office or CENRO.

According to Ms. Lina Hernandez, SBC Science teacher, they have been conducting this activity for six times now. She also added that tree-planting promotes advocacy of environmental concerns, particularly the value of trees — their role in global warming and flood control, awareness of greening and beautification of community surroundings.

Meanwhile, SBC family also encourages other children and youth to participate and support this project. They believe that children at an early age should be taught on how to care and protect the environment for the betterment of our home called Earth.

This move is to prepare colleges and universities to the possible harm of the aforesaid influenza virus. De la Salle Lipa, Lyceum of the Philippines Batangas University, University of Batangas and particularly Batangas State University (with foreign students) are among the colleges and universities with a large number of student population and being unprepared for the posible cases would certainly cause a fast and alarming spread of H1N1 not only in the province but in the country at large.

With this concern, it is advised that colleges here in the province must have their own thermo scanner located at the students and employees entrance. Assembly like Freshmen orientation must also be postponed and announcements regarding the prevention of the H1N1 virus must also be in posted on bulletins and offices.

For the students, teachers and school staff, always bring sanitizers and alcohol, observe proper hygiene, have a healthy diet always and take vitamins C, zinc and E.

HISTORY

The Religious of the Good Shepherd (RGS) established the first Catholic School for girls (Girl School) in the Diocese of Lipa. This was in 1913, when the Most Reverend Joseph Petrelli, Bishop of the Diocese, asked the help of the RGS Sisters working in Ragoon, Burma to come to Batangas to start the first educational mission of the Church in his Diocese. The challenge to undertake this new mission was enthusiastically taken up by Mother Mary of St. Ligouri and her companions. Within a short span of time, more Sisters from the Mother House in France arrived. There were many difficulties in the beginning but the Irish and American Sisters who pioneered the task surmounted all these through their untiring sacrifices and the generosity of the people in the community.

Saint Bridget College has continuously embarked on Quality Education and to ensure this, the High School Department has been under an accrediting agency. This school year 2003-2004 the Grade School and College Departments are both aspiring for accreditation.

Ang misyon ng Saint Bridget College ay nakaugat sa atas ng Simbahang Katolika na isabuhay ang pag-ibig ng Panginoon lalo na ang diwa ng Butihing Pastol na nagpapahayag na ang isang tao ay higit na mahalaga sa daigdig.
