The Business Process Outsourcing Industry is touted as one of the most
promising industries in the country. In fact, Philippines is now the BPO capital of the world, notwithstanding the fact that, it currently employs hundreds of thousands of Filipinos.

AMA Computer Learning Center LIPA (ACLC), one of the leading technical vocational schools offering Internet and Communications Technology courses in the Batangas Province, and ALORICA Inc. (formerly Advanced Contact Solutions Inc.), one of the leading companies in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry, acknowledge the importance of BPO in the economy and the significance of sustaining the competitiveness of Filipinos. Thus, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Agreement for their employment partnership that aims to sustain the BPO specifically in Lipa City.

The partnership aims to provide immediate employment to the graduates
of ACLC while sufficing the demand of ALORICA for representatives. The
partnership is expected to enable ACLC to pattern curricula of its different technical programs to the demands of the industry, especially Business Process Outsourcing. In return, ALORICA Inc. will provide trainings and technical support for the effective and efficient implementation of upgraded curriculum and teaching methodologies. The dual support aims at sustaining the program while equipping the students with better, more technical and relevant skills.

Given that ACLC Lipa offers technical associate courses such as
Computer Hardware Servicing, Computer Systems and Design Programming, Business Office and Administration Services, and Networking and Telecommunications Technology, as well as, short technical courses such as Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, Contact Center Services NC II, and Programming NC IV; these I.T. courses complement the needs of ALORICA and the entire BPO industry. Thus, students have higher chances of landing a job from a multinational company even before graduation.

According to Karl Toledo, Operations Officer of ACLC Lipa, “The
partnership is very exciting and inspirational because, together, we aim to sustain the employability of students and the economic growth of Lipa City. We have programs that will not only benefit our own stakeholders, but the general public as well.”

Fortunately, we have our masisipag na OJTs from DLSL, they took down notes of the Imbestigador’s substantial speech.

He greeted the audience with his famous line, “Excuse me po”. Mike Enriquez graduated at De La Salle Greenhills, creating a close affinity to the La Sallian community present at the event.

GMA News’ main man shared that “what is news to you may not be news to others, especially journalists”. Oh how I wish I was actually there so I could strip off every piece of his message.

Here are the highlights of Mike Enriquez’s speech in the said Regional Marketing and PR Congress:

• He does ad lib most of the time.
• Your product is your best message. Make sure of your product before promoting.
• You compete 24/7.



• Know your media. And make media know you.
• Media can be your best friend and also your worst enemy.
• You may not need all media all the time. It’s the vital few as against the wasteful many.
• You have to build relationships with the media.
• Stories, especially exclusives are more appreciated than gifts.
• Be a news source instead of just being a source of press releases. (I admire his advocacy for authenticity)
• Communicate directly with specific persons in media organizations.
• Media is a business. Competition is tough, rough and at times downright ruthless. (Undeniably correct)
• His father taught him: ‘you must distinguish the difference between a gift and a bribe…’
• The best element for success in the media business: credibility.
• “If it bleeds, it leads -pag may aksidenteng nangyari at may namatay, mas umaaksyon.”

De La Salle Lipa will hold the First Regional Marketing & PR Congress on January 29, 2011, Saturday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at De La Salle Lipa Sentrum. As of press time, the event has around 1,200 confirmed participants made up mostly of management and marketing major students. Other set of attendees are composed of AB Communication students, marketing practitioners, and various companies in and around Batangas.

The event started with a program set at the BHV Gymnasium where the kids enjoyed the magic show and other performances from La Sallian talents. There were various booths of sponsors (including WOWBatangas) who provided the kids with treats for the event.

Then the kids started their trick or treat after the program. I supposed the kids had a great time. Who wouldn’t if you get free candies and loads of entertaining surprises?

DLSL Trick or Treat 2010 was made possible through the efforts of the Marketing Communications and Community Involvement Offices.

Miss Earth 2008, Karla Paula Henry was called up on stage for her advocacy speech. Being a former Showtime hurado, Karla was asked by the roaring crowd of a “sample”. She chose to do a catwalk and left the singing to Josh Santana.

Before the announcement of the Top 5 finalists for Mr. and Miss Lyceum 2010 candidates, the cultural ambassadors of LPU, Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe, provided another extravagant performance.

And then they were five (no, 10)…

Top 5 male candidates were: Jowell Christian de los Reyes (#6); Paul Edward Macomb (#4); Michael Gerard Castillo (#7); Michal Bagui (#3); Jonathan Aguado (#9).

Top 5 female candidates were: Mary Jewel Punzalan (#13); Ge Lopez (#5); Mary Ruth Reyes (#4); Mona Hammad (#9); Marinel Andal (#8).

The final question that rocked the nerves of the guys: What can you suggest to strengthen LPU’s goal for internationalization?

The final question for the girls which reminded us quite a bit of the infamous ‘major, major’ scenario: If you would sum up the core values of the LPU, what would that single core value be? Explain.

Mr. Noel T. Dialino Jr. of College of Engineering Architecture Fine Arts and Computing Sciences (CEAFACS) and Ms. Olein Jaira Sophia V. The pre-pageant show included the casual wear competion and casual interview. These according to the organizers will make up the 30% of the total scores of the candidates.

Sept 11 was also a CHARITY day and so before the show, contestants of Mr. and Ms. LPU 2010 spent bonding time with their adopted kids at STORYLAND at SM City Batangas. They also gave some gifts and presents to these kids.

The grand coronation and pageant night will be on Sept 28, 2010 at LPU Gymnasium. Don’t miss it.
