When it’s a mallwide sale, expect shoppers from various parts of Batangas and the nearby provinces to packed the mall and have their own share of dizziness after hours of searching for the best buys.

Oops. Haha. Moms are the best shoppers in the world. Categorically speaking. Do dads have the same patience for rummaging over the piles of clothes and other stuffs to find (for the 3rd time here) the best buys?

Who says grandpa and grandma are exemptions for the super mallwide sale? And there are quite a number of senior citizen couples earlier. They are the ones who test the memory skills of sales persons and security guards with all the directions they ask of the stores and items they are looking for.

When I’m at the mall, my imaginary keyboard often does its work. What do I mean? I run stories in my mind, create stories for people I see around. Weird or scary? Nah, it’s just plain old fun. Nakakainip kasi mag-mall kung di ka naman nagsho-shopping. Laughs.

For mallwide sale like this SM City Lipa 3-Day Sale, you should know what and where the great finds are.

TIP: If you know the mall will have a sale coming soon, scout for the items you want to buy so that when the sale period comes, you know right away where to head.

Especially if they’re slashing 50%-70% off from these items, grab the chance. You can buy branded clothes for as low as P150 (basic tee) and a pair of pants for P499!

SM City Lipa Celebrates a Special Day for Special Persons

In celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Month, SM City Lipa together with Lipa City Councilor Concon Hernandez and Lipenyong Aaruga sa May kapansanan o Espesyal na Sektor ng kailangan ng Alalay (LAMESA) staged a whole day
affair dedicated for the welfare and fun of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The day started with a morning mass at the atrium of the mall where special seats were reserved for PWDs and to make sure that the message of the mass is understood by persons with hearing impairments, one person was tasked to interpret it through sign language while the mass is going on.

A morning snack was served afterwards at the Foodcourt, which was immediately followed by a fun and adrenaline raising “relay on wheels” – a relay race for the physically-challenged, particularly those who are using wheel chairs. Winning the said game are Dennis Laya and Andrew Bernardo.

World of Fun on the other hand sponsored a videoke challenge where Porferio De Guzman emerged as the ultimate Videoke King. Other activities include the games of chess, dama, trip to Jerusalem which were participated upon by deaf-mute children and other fun
games sponsored by Jollibee.

With a short message, Ms. Nenita Hablado, LAMESA President acknowledged the efforts of SM City Lipa for always being the first establishment in the City to implement laws in connection with the welfare of PWDs. She (Hablado), at the same time is grateful for the
initiatives the mall is giving for staging a fun day dedicated solely for the PWDs.

Dubbed as “Bloggers’ Food Treat: Ito ang Trip!”, this SM City Lipa blogging event is open for only 10 Batangueno Bloggers. Yup, there will be 10 lucky bloggers who’ll get a chance to eat-to-sawa and to receive tokens from SM City Lipa.

I have watched most of Pacquiao’s latest fights first on live streaming video over the Internet (which were laggy and low quality and not to mention unofficial), and then on uber-delayed national TV broadcast with typhoon-ondoy rain of commercials. Both of course have been dissatisfying. I immediately forget my dissatisfaction though because Manny has won all of the time.

This November 15, Pacquiao faces an equally formidable foe in Miguel Cotto, in a fight appropriately dubbed Firepower. I have the same respect for Cotto as I do for Pacquiao, and to tell you the truth, I will take Cotto’s side for all of his fights, except this one with Pacquiao. That’s how much I like this Puerto Rican boxer after seeing some of his bouts, reading about him, and watching his Knockout highlights in Youtube. I mean, if you really think Pacquiao’s gonna trample on Cotto like what he did with Oscar Dela Hoya and Ricky Hatton, then you better watch (at least) this HBO Greatest Hits special feature on Miguel.

Cotto is a smart boxer and has the best body shots in the business. Pacquiao is fast fast fast, but Cotto has handled speed before quite well with Shane Mosley. They’ll be weighing in at 145 lbs, and Cotto, the natural welterweight at 147 lbs, will definitely make the weight. These are the reasons why I think Manny Pacquiao will face his toughest opponent yet on November 15 (November 14 evening in the US).

Does it scare me that Pacquiao might lose? Of course. Do I think Pacquiao will still win? I honestly don’t know. Win or lose though, I believe Pacquiao is a HERO not because he’s proud to be a Filipino or he’s the #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world BUT because, on a personal level, he takes the greatest risks to be the greatest. With the realization of this belief, my respect for Pacquiao takes on a whole new meaning, very much apart from the pride he brings to our country, or the millions of dollars he gets when he fights. I have become Pacquiao’s GREATEST fan.

And yes, as I have mentioned, I’m tired of scouring for the best “illegal” video of a Pacquiao fight over the Internet, and angry at myself for cursing over 15-minute commercials in-between rounds of his fights. Perhaps Pacquiao deserves something better from his greatest fan, knowing fully well that Pacquiao, for the first time since I know him, might lose. Perhaps it’s time to join the thousands of Filipinos who watch, curse on, and celebrate a live boxing match inside a mall theater with a big screen. After Manny’s boxing career, that’s where he might end up anyway–on the big screen.

Thanks to SM City Lipa for making this event special for the growing population of bloggers in the province. This grand eyeball is part of the mall’s WiFi launching and blogging contest.

Jr Cantos and Marhgil Macuha, among the top bloggers of the province and the country as well, gave a short talk on ‘How to Start a Blog’ and ‘How to Earn from Blogs’ respectively. Part of the audience by the way are would be bloggers, students from different colleges and universities in Lipa.

Guitartutee artists, Penelope and Clara Reyes together with Thanks, the ultimate guitar tutor, rendered some great performances at the EB. Guitartutee, for the information of Batanguenos, is one of the fastest growing websites in the country in terms of traffic. It has been featured in INQ.net last year and is continually increasing its visitors with 14,000+ guitar enthusiasts and fans everyday from all over the world.

The eyeball concluded with the awarding of winners of SM City Lipa’s blogging contest with theme dubbed as “My SM Awesome Experience”. Celine Bernadette Francisco and Ryan Tanauan won the consolation prize while Shane Melu and Nica CAtbagan tied up for the grand prize. You may read their winning blogs here. The official launch of SM City Lipa’s free Wi-Fi is slated this Saturday, September 19, along with the Bloggers EB and Blogging Contest where you can win P5000. Although not launched yet, the wi-fi network has been installed for a few weeks now, and the SM people have been testing coverage and speeds leading to Saturday’s event. I decided to test the speed myself, and if you are used to a home broadband connection, then the results that I got might blow your mind, so better wear a helmet or a cap or something.

My test result using speedtest.net returned a 3.45 Mbps Download and 2.44 Mbps Upload speeds for SM Lipa’s connection. That’s about 10x faster than my connection at home, and 5x faster than our office connection. With that speed, you can download an mp3 file in under 15 seconds. I think they blocked torrent ports though, because I’m only getting 10-30kbps for a sample video file. But for web-browsing, blogging, facebooking and IMing, these download and upload speeds are storms, when all you needed was a bucket of water.

The only question that runs through my mind right now is : will this free Wi-Fi service be reliable? In a few weeks time a lot of people with laptops and wi-fi enabled phones will probably go to SM just to surf for free, and as with all networks, congestion will be a big issue.

Will confirm this perceived problem with SM when I get the chance. Will also update you with other tests in the coming weeks.
