Batangas Information Technology Students’ (BITS) Conference 2011 features a load of interesting topics which are deemed important and useful for IT students. And with that comes the most appropriate people to lead various discussions within the day.

Among the resource speakers will be our team, the WOWBatangas Team, Gerald Villorente, Senior Web Developer of Validonline, Ken Samudio, Entrepreneur, Matthews and Melka E-Commerce, Jon Mannion, Practioner Researcher at Constructing Learning Through Technology, and Ariestedes Royo, Senior Software Engineer, ACCENTURE.

The participants will also be provided with updates and brief discussions on Microsoft Technology, IT careers in call center, BPO (Accenture/Teletech/ACS), and the current trends in IT.

This event is made possible by ESI Event Stream International in cooperation with Batangas Information Technology Society (BITS). Event partners are Fiesta World Mall, WOWBatangas.com, Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS), Microsoft, and itprosasia.com.

Again, this event will happen on January 29, 2011 at Fiesta World Mall, Marawoy Lipa City, from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

The program had for its first part, the renown strategic management consultant, Dean Alberto L. Buenviaje of Ateneo Graduate School of Business who shared his expertise on management, entrepreneurship and leadership. He stressed on the importance of having entrepreneurial mind for managers who are also playing the roles of leaders in businesses.

“Management is concerned with getting up a ladder in the most effective and most efficient manner. Leadership is making certain the ladder is on the right wall,” Dean Buenviaje emphasized.

The afternoon session on the other hand, focused on the role of government leaders in achieving development or in shaping possibilities for the Philippines. Atty. Florencio de Loyola, 2nd District Board Member, shared his knowledge on the said topic before the roughly 500 attendees.

In the end he said that after all, everything will boil down to this particular bible verse: “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” (Matt. 6:28-29)

What he was trying to say was that human anxiety and concern about physical and material needs, though understandable, are not the key to the true understanding of existence. Moreover, greed and selfishness, which are the cause of most wars and human conflicts, are rooted in an underlying anxiety about material goods.

In line with this, the first ever Fiesta World Mall Business Convention was held on October 16, 2009 which was attended businessmen, representatives from the local government and other sectors of the community. The convention was themed as “A Promise Delivered”.

The management laid out their development plans and projects to encourage the customers to patronize their services.

According to Lorenzo Kua, Jr., mall president, they have kept their promise to provide excellent customer service, affordable prices, increased annual profitability, environmental responsibility, and quality and genuine service.

One of the recent developments was the launching of Fiesta 168 Hypermart last October 10. Fiesta 168 Hypermart has the “Divisoria” price for their products.

Gwendolyn Wong, LK Group of Companies Chairman, they want to provide their customers with complete shopping and dining experience. She also boasts of the Brunswick kind of bowling lane which could only be found in Fiesta World Mall.

FWM also promotes educational tourism as they have within their landscape the Royal British College, Business Graduate School of Ateneo de Manila University, and University of Perpetual Help.

Jude Navarro, General Marketing Head, that there would be various festivities, week-long sale, gatherings, and fiesta speed zone that features a motorcycle racing circuit.

Also found in the mall’s vicinity are government offices such as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and the National Statistics Office (NSO).

Ateneo de Manila University School of Business in now in Lipa City. The MBA in Lipa City is said to be designed mainly for Chinese professionals currently doing business in the Philippines and mainland Chinese students wanting to pursue their MBA at the Ateneo.

Meanwhile, Mr. Albert Buenviaje, dean of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, and Mr. Lorenzo Ku, chair of LK Global Holdings Corporation, shook hands and exchanged banters after signing the memorandum of agreement for the conduct of the MBA program in Lipa City. The highly upbeat mood of the signatories on June 23 at the AGSB conference room belied the seriousness and the immensity of the new undertaking.

Under the agreement, LK Global shall provide all the facilities in the delivery of the program in Lipa City including rooms, equipment, and amenities. AGSB will develop the program and implement it according to its set of academic standards. The faculty members will all be from AGSB.

Ten classrooms plus dormitories and other amenities will soon be available for Chinese students who will enrolled in the aforementioned program. The school site will be at the second floor of Firesta World Mall, Marawoy, Lipa City.
